The eco-sustainable boards of this Italian brand paraded at the Surf Week Tour event together with Flamingo Surf Club.
Besides being professional surfers, Alessandro and Davide founded a surf school in 2018, Flamingo Surf Club, and build boards together for the MAIA Shapes brand.
This craft workshop was born in 2015 with Alessandro Grande, who after graduating from Bari Polytechnic decided to dedicate his life to Surfing and the Sea. The aim of this project is to offer Surf products with a lower environmental impact on our planet, both in terms of emissions and sustainability of materials.
"Nature creates the necessary conditions for surfing, and the least we can do is to take care of reducing our impact on it as much as possible. It is precisely in this direction that our eco surfboard production, certified by sustainablesurf.org within the ecoBoard project, goes." (Alessandro Grande for www.blide.zone)
The result are Ecosurfboards, unique pieces of Italian craftsmanship made to measure for each surfer with customised graphics.

The design of the boards starts with 3D modelling software to extrapolate the curves and outlines that are cut with CNC hot wire.
Once the recycled EPS blanks are assembled, the board shape is finished by hand. This stage is followed by resin coating with fibre lamination and hot coat (resin only) by brush. Finally, the board is sanded and polished according to the shape and customer requirements.
The materials used by this brand are only recycled EPS blocks, glass fibre, linen, basalt, hemp and jute, and epoxy bioresin.
The process from creation to manufacture of these original eco-tables involves the use of power tools for sanding and polishing. Hazardous substances are released during these activities that risk damaging the respiratory tract when subjected to repeated exposure. To feel safe, MAIA Shapes use our silicone BLS 4000next and BLS Zer0 31 C to adequately protect themselves.
