Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli hosted the San Marino and Riviera di Rimini Grand Prix today with the MotoGP race.
Sunday 4th of September 2022
This circuit is named in memory of Marco Simoncelli, the Italian rider who died in 2011 during the Malaysian Grand Prix.
For yesterday's race we only had high expectations with such talented champions in the race.
First place went to Francesco Bagnaia, second in MotoGP, with a time of 41'43.199 and Enea Bastianini followed him in second place. This time Yamaha MotoGP World Champion finished fifth: the race was complex, but the challenge continues and Fabio Quartararo remains at the top of the championship with 211 points.
A tough race, but "one of the first [...] where I was behind another bike without any problems with overheating or front tyre pressure", Quartararo said.
Maio Meregalli, director of the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team comments: "Fabio gave his best to maximise the result. This fifth place and these 11 points are important for the championship, but we definitely wanted more at a track like this".
Franco Morbidelli, on the other hand, was hoping for a different performance, but was held up by the crash of another rider, Di Giannantonio, which ended his race early on. Both were unhurt and Morbidelli looks forward to the next races on 16-18 September at Aragón, Spain, although it will be a very different circuit.
Tomorrow and the day after will be very important because the team will be back in action at the Misano circuit to prepare for 2023 with official IRTA tests.
